Hold On

Early in the daylight hour

A songbird calls to me

High above the Lighthouse tower

Way across the sea

A moment of enlightenment

Dawns just like the sun

And moves me to a purpose

Where before it there was none

Memories like shards of glass

Cut through the waves of time

Sharpened are their edges

By the daily grind

They fall away in steady rhythm

Though I grasp I can’t hold on

They soften and then melt away

Eventually they are gone

Ceasing to exist is only

To begin a different way

Giving one more reason

To believe another day

On and on the years slip by

As they’re known to do

They take my hand and lead me

One step closer to you
